Bach Flower Herbal Emotional Formulas: A Simplified Self-help Guide Addressing Today’s Complex Emotional Challenges

by Jessica Bear

This book discusses formulas for specific areas of life. For example, Dr. Bear has specific flower essence remedies to assist with success, fears, phobias and anxieties, a formula for emotional correlations of inflammatory conditions and she even discusses the benefits of using flower essences with the Twelve Step Program for addiction issues. These are just a few of the areas Dr. Bear discusses in detail.

The book is set up as an easy reference guide pertaining to the most common life experiences. I like the simplicity of the book, as it is helpful for non-practitioners. This is extremely useful if you don’t have a flower essence practitioner to work with. Dr. Bear provides enough insight into each flower essence to help the reader determine what flower essence remedy will help him or her the most.

Bach Flower Remedies for Animals

by Helen Graham, Gregory Vlamis

I found this book very helpful with describing symptoms related to animal behavioral issues, and backing these up with case material obtained from veterinarians, animal behavior specialists and health practitioners. Other helpful areas included discussions on the emotional bond between animals and their people, and the suitability of utilizing flower essences with animals. This book was very thorough on the teachings of each of the 38 Bach Flower Remedies.

Bach Flower Remedies for Horses and Riders

by Gael Mariani, Martin Scott

This is the best book I’ve read that is specifically devoted to using flower essences with horses. The authors do an excellent job of describing each of the 38 Bach Flower Remedies along with providing suggestions on how to use the flower essences with horses and riders. To solidify the benefits of Bach Flower Remedies, Scott and Mariani share several case studies that describe in detail how flower essences have helped horses and their people.

Every horse owner and rider needs to read this book. It will provide an in depth look into your horse’s mental state. This book will be a very useful guide to assist me in my animal practice. Two paws up!

Bach Flower Remedies to the Rescue

by Gregory Vlamis

This book is a tribute to Dr. Edward Bach, the “father” of flower essence remedies. Vlamis includes rare photographs, and out-of-print writings, which discuss Bach’s theories on health and wellness. Also included in this book are actual case histories explaining how physicians, vets and other health care providers have utilized the Bach Rescue Remedy in a variety of situations. Bach Flower Remedies to the Rescue provides some basic insight to the early teachings of Dr. Bach, and what his intentions were for the 38 Bach Flower Remedies he discovered.

Bach Flower Therapy: Theory and Practice

by Mechthild Scheffer

Scheffer has provided one of the most comprehensive books on the Bach Flower Remedies. She discusses the theory of how the remedies work, and she provides a brief background on the “father” of flower essences, Dr. Edward Bach.

The detailed descriptions of the 38 Bach Flower Remedies are what attracted me to this book. Scheffer provides botanical characteristics of each flower and then goes into great detail on the fundamental spiritual qualities of these flowers. She describes the most common characteristics of “energy blockages”, the potential transformations one may have while taking flower essences, and Scheffer provides helpful tips on things one can do to further enhance emotional wellness.

This book accomplishes two important things. 1) The reader will have greater insight into each flower essence’s underlying psychological concept and 2) This material acts as a reference guide for anyone interested in going deeper into the psychological realm of flower essence remedies. The reader will learn what “symptoms” to look for and what flower essence remedy may be most helpful with that emotional/mental state. Scheffer’s book gets “two paws up”!

Flower Essence Repertory

by Patricia Kaminski, Richard Katz

The Flower Essence Repertory is a must have for any one who is seeking in-depth writings regarding the North American and English Flower Essences. Kaminski and Katz have done an outstanding job writing about Flower Essence Theory and Practice; providing categories and themes relating to our “soul” issues; and providing detailed descriptions of flower essence qualities. If you are looking for just one book on flower essences, this would be the one to purchase. I highly recommend it! Flower Essences for Animals: Remedies for Helping the Pets You Love

by Lila Devi

I have not used Master’s Flower Essences in my practice; however, I found this book very interesting. Devi developed this line of 20 flower essences in 1977. In her book she discusses “theme essences for understanding your animal friends and yourself as a pet owner”. For consultants and trainers working with pet owners, you will find Chapter 4 helpful: “Behavior Problems in Pet Owners”.

Flowers That Heal: How To Use Flower Essences

by Patricia Kaminski

The author considers this book “an introductory guide to the healing properties of flower essences”. Kaminski provides practical considerations for using flower essences, and what one should expect to achieve while utilizing this modality. The Appendix is especially helpful because in it, she has a brief description of the most commonly used flower essences, the positive qualities of those essences and their patterns of imbalance. Mastering Bach Flower Therapies: A Guide to Diagnosis and Treatment

by Mechthild Scheffer

This book primarily demonstrates case studies on flower essences. The author details accounts of her patients’ course of diagnoses, treatment plan and recovery process. If you are interested in reading cases on how flower essences have helped people and animals, this would be a fine book to have.

Touching the Soul (Using Flower Essences for Massage and Bodywork Therapy)

by Patricia Kaminski

An earlier version of this booklet appeared in the 1998 Spring and Summer editions of Massage and Bodywork magazine. This is a comprehensive booklet discussing what flower essences are, and how they can be utilized in massage and bodywork sessions. Kaminski provides lists of what she believes are some of the most important flower essences for massage, and key flower essences which are particularly suited to subtle body healing. I found Parts 3 and 4 especially helpful for myself. Kaminski stresses the importance of using flower essences between therapeutic sessions as part of the client’s on-going wellness program, and how important it is for the flower essence practitioner/caretaker/bodyworker to care for herself. This is a “quick read” chok full of helpful information. For bodyworkers and massage therapists, consider this your guide to whole-body wellness.
